Box Score NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – The State University of New York at New Paltz women's soccer team dropped its first State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) opener, 2-0, to SUNY Cortland on Friday afternoon at Alumni Field.
The Hawks (1-8, 0-1) return to host SUNY Oswego tomorrow at 1 p.m. Cortland (5-3, 1-0) will travel to play SUNY Oneonta tomorrow at 1 p.m.
After a scoreless first half, Cortland pushed ahead with a 1-0 lead in the 62nd minute when Sam Barringer shot the ball from 24 yards out to find the back of the net. Less than a minute later, Amanda Profera sent the ball to the top left corner of the goal to seal the Red Dragons' 2-0 victory.
Cortland outshot the Hawks, 16-4, but New Paltz held a 6-5 advantage in corner kicks.
Offensively, junior defender
Sloane Lipshie (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y./Comsewogue) tallied two shots, while senior midfielder
Kristina Gandolfo (Merrick, N.Y./Sanford H. Calhoun) and sophomore midfielder
Danielle Grossi (Sayville, N.Y./Sayvill) notched one shot apiece.
Junior goalkeeper
Mikaela Stiklickas (Nesconset, N.Y./The Stony Brook School) recorded eight saves between the posts.
