Box Score NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – Sophomore defender
Julia Friedman (Centerport, N.Y./Harborfields) scored the game winning goal to lift the State University of New York at New Paltz women's soccer team to a 1-0 win over State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) rival, SUNY Oswego on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Field.
The Hawks improve to 2-8, 1-1 and will head out on the road to compete against SUNY Geneseo on Friday, Oct. 2 at 3 p.m. Oswego drops to 4-4, 1-1 and will face off against Alfred University on Tuesday, Sept. 29 at 7 p.m.
The Lakers attacked early and frequently but the New Paltz defense held firm to keep the first half scoreless.
Oswego never let up on the pressure in the second half but the Hawks were able to find a window up top as Friedman launched the ball into the goal on a pass from senior midfielder
Chelsea Weir (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip) to push New Paltz ahead, 1-0.
The Lakers were relentless with their offensive attack, but Oswego was unable to find an opportunity to tie up the score and the Hawks locked in their first SUNYAC win.
Despite the victory, Oswego outshot New Paltz, 16-8, and held an 8-1 advantage in corner kicks.
