Box Score NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – The State University of New York at New Paltz dropped a 5-0 match to Stockton University in the final day of the Michelle Vargas-Robin Memorial Tournament at the South Turf Field.
The Hawks drop to 1-1 and look to bounce back on Wednesday when they face Ramapo College at 4 p.m. on Alumni Field. Stockton rises to 2-1 and moves on to face St. Joseph's College (LI) Sept. 10 at 7 p.m.
The Osprey broke through the Hawks' defense in the 12
th minute of the game to land first on the scoreboard, 1-0, before finding the back of the goal a few minutes later for a 2-0 lead.
New Paltz was unable to maintain possession as Stockton rallied once more with a goal in the 23
rd minute. Junior midfielder
Sloane Lipshie (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y./Comsweogue) attempted to put the Hawks on the scoreboard but the ball struck wide with sophomore forward Gabriella Cabello's (Happauge, N.Y./Smithtown West) shot moments later following the same path.
Stockton capped off the first half with one final goal to push ahead 4-0.
Despite the Hawks firing off four shots in the second half and freshman goalkeeper
Mary Flanagan's (Rochester, N.Y./Brighton) two saves, the Osprey's final goal in the 83
rd minute of game play secured its victory.
The Osprey outshot the Hawks 13-9 and had a 5-3 advantage in corner kicks. Sophomore goalkeeper
Katelyn Cordero (Airmont, N.Y./Suffern) played the first half for the Hawks, registering one save.
Junior midfielders
Skye Kaler (Charlton, N.Y./Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) and
Hannah Moran (Albany, N.Y./Albany) and junior defender
Allison Vaccaro (Churchville, N.Y./Churchville-Chili) all recorded one shot for the day.
