ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Despite being down 29-16 at halftime, the State University of New York at New Paltz women's basketball team made a second half comeback to take home a 56-44 win over the University of Mount Union on Saturday afternoon in the final day of the Chuck Resler Tournament hosted by the University of Rochester.
The Hawks managed to cut the score to 35-all with under three minutes left in the third period before taking the lead for the first time as freshman guard

Kit Small (Slingerlands, N.Y./Academy of the Holy Names) each put up points for a 38-35 advantage heading into the final quarter.
New Paltz pushed a 12-0 run in the fourth period to extend its lead to 50-38. Mount Union would only be able to put up six more points before solid shooting from the foul line cemented the final victory for the Hawks.
On the scoresheet, Mount Union (1-2) shot 26.2 percent from the field (16-of-61) and collected 13 points off the bench while New Paltz (2-1) shot 23.9 percent (17-of-71), made 19-of-23 shots (82.6 percent) from the foul line and collected 22 points off of turnovers.
Small was named to the All-Tournament team and led the offensive efforts with 19 points, scoring 17 in the second half, while recording a team-high five steals and shooting 10-of-11 from the charity stripe. Dietz chipped in 11 points, including two 3-pointers, and pulled down nine boards. Senior guard/forward
Morgan Roessler (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) collected 10 points, nine rebounds and two assists for the Hawks.
Senior guard Abbey Bartoszewicz scored 22 points for the Purple Raiders while shooting 4-of-7 from the 3-point range. Sophomore forward Jaime Sangborn chipped in five points while junior center Erin White added four points and pulled down a team-high 10 boards.
The Hawks are back in action when they open their home season on Tuesday, Nov. 22 against Hartwick College at 6 p.m. in the Hawk Center.
