Box Score POTSDAM, N.Y. – The State University of New York at New Paltz women's basketball team swept State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) opponent SUNY Potsdam in an 83-52 road win on Friday evening.
The Hawks improve to 14-5, 9-3 and visit SUNY Plattsburgh tomorrow at 2 p.m. Potsdam drops to 1-18, 0-12 and hosts SUNY Oneonta tomorrow at 2 p.m.
Several players tallied double figures in points. Sophomore guard
Jasmine Bryant (Elmont, N.Y./St. Mary's College Prep) shot 4-of-7 from the floor, 3-of-6 from the 3-point mark, and converted 4-of-5 from the line to pace the Hawks with 15 points. Freshman guard
Lindsay Bettke (Pelham, N.Y./The Ursuline School) recorded 14 points off the bench while sophomore guard
Sydney Pinn (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle) notched 13 points. Junior guard/forward
Kit Small (Slingerlands, N.Y./Academy of the Holy Names) and senior guard
Colleen Ames (Lindenhurst, N.Y./Lindenhurst) recorded 11 points and 10 points, respectively. Sophomore guard/forward
Laura Stuart (Levittown, N.Y./Division Avenue) notched a team-high seven rebounds.
Freshman guard Secret Clark led the Bears with 16 points, sinking 8-of-16 shots from the floor, while senior forward Katie LaVoie collected 15 points. Freshman forward Victoria Shopovick grabbed six boards in the loss.
New Paltz held a 46-40 edge in rebounds and grabbed 22 points off turnovers and 31 bench points while shooting 40 percent (24-of-60) from the field. Potsdam shot 35.5 percent (22-of-60) from the floor and turned in 22 points in the paint. Both teams were near even at the foul line, with the Hawks shooting 65.7 percent (23-of-35) and Potsdam shooting 63.6 percent (7-of-11).
New Paltz went on a 15-8 run in the first quarter for a commanding 24-12 edge. The Hawks carried their momentum into the second period to lead 44-21 at the break.
The Hawks showed no signs of stopping in the final two sessions of the game as New Paltz pushed its unrelenting pace to a comfortable 31-point cushion to capture the victory.
