NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – The State University of New York at New Paltz women's soccer team opened its 2016 campaign with a 3-0 loss against cross-river rival Vassar College on Thursday afternoon at the South Turf Field.
The Hawks drop to 0-1 and return to action tomorrow against The Sage Colleges at 5 p.m. in the first game of the Michelle Vargas-Robin Tournament. Vassar improves to 1-0 on the season and will visit New York University on Saturday, Sept. 3 for a 12:30 p.m. contest.
The Brewers outshot the Hawks 22-0 and led 8-3 in corner kicks.
Freshman goalkeeper
Angela Ratka (Farmington, N.Y./Victor) made eight saves for the Hawks in her collegiate debut.
Senior forward Jordyn Matthews led the Brewers with two goals while senior forward Rory Chipman tallied one goal and one assist. Sophomore midfielder Sara Seper and freshman defender Jordan Moss tallied one assist apiece for Vassar.
