Women’s Soccer Suffers 1-0 Setback at Union (N.Y.)

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The State University of New York at New Paltz women's soccer team dropped a last minute 1-0 decision to Union (N.Y.) College on Wednesday evening.
 
As time ran down in regulation, the game remained scoreless until freshman forward Linsey Giles shot from 18 yards out off of a feed from junior midfielder Sydney Keane in the 89th minute to hand the 1-0 win to the host Dutchwomen.
 
Union outshot New Paltz, 29-6, and held an 11-3 advantage in corner kicks.
 
Senior defender Sloane Lipshie (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y./Comsewogue) tallied two shots for the Hawks' offense while senior Kaite Mulry (Sayville, N.Y./Sayville), senior midfielder Hannah Moran (Albany, N.Y./Albany) and freshman midfielder Jessica Fox (New Hyde Park, N.Y./New Hyde Park Memorial) recorded one shot apiece. Freshman goalkeeper Angela Ratka (Farmington, N.Y./Victor) made 10 saves.
 
For the Dutchwomen, Keane had six shots while junior midfielder Allie Supranowicz fired off five shots. Sophomore goalie Kelsey Hartsoe made three stops in goal.
 
The Hawks (1-5-1) will remain on the road as they pay a visit to the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute on Friday, Sept. 16 at 4 p.m.
