SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – Senior midfielder
Sam Spring (Long Island City, NY/NYC Lab School for Collaborative Studies) netted two goals – including the game-winner in double overtime – to lift the men's soccer team at the State University of New York at New Paltz past host Union 2-1 in non-conference action on Wednesday night at College Park.
Spring scored in the 11
th minute to hand New Paltz (5-1-4) the early lead thanks to an assist from freshman forward
Luke Dole (Delmar, NY/Bethlehem), which the Hawks enjoyed until the 74
th minute when Union (7-2-0) scored the equalizer.
Neither team scored in the first overtime segment to send the match into additional time. In the 106
th minute, Spring found the back of the net, again assisted by Dole, to hand New Paltz the key road non-conference victory, which snapped a five-game losing streak to the Dutchmen. Union is currently the No. 5 ranked team in the NSCAA East Region poll.

John Guzzo (Carle Place, NY/Carle Place) made two saves for the Hawks.
The Hawks hit the road this weekend for SUNYAC play, heading to Brockport and Geneseo on Friday-Saturday, Sept. 30-Oct. 1. New Paltz is looking to snap an eight-game losing skid to the Golden Eagles on Friday afternoon.
