MAHWAH, N.J. – The State University of New York at New Paltz women's soccer team earned its first win of the season as the Hawks defeated Ramapo College, 1-0, on Wednesday afternoon.
With the first half winding down, New Paltz made its move in the 41st minute as junior midfielder
Danielle Grossi (Sayville, N.Y./Sayville) beat the Ramapo goalkeeper to find the back of the net off of a feed from freshman midfielder
Mikayla Pugliese (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) to place the Hawks, 1-0, on the scoreboard.
New Paltz managed to shut out the Roadrunners in the second half as the clock ran down and sealed the victory for the Hawks.
The Hawks edged the Roadrunners, 12-11, in shots while Ramapo finished with a 2-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Freshman midfielder Liliann Vizcaino had three shots for the Roadrunners while sophomore midfielder Gabrielle Gentilucci and sophomore defender Skyler Rybacki collected two shots apiece.

Angela Ratka (Farmington, N.Y./Victor) made five saves in her first shut-out victory. Her Ramapo counterpart, freshman goalkeeper Elizabeth Harvell, made 10 stops in goal for the Roadrunners.
The Hawks (1-3) next compete in the Mount Saint Mary Tournament from Friday-Saturday, Sept. 9-10. New Paltz will face off against the host Knights on Friday, Sept. 9 at 4:30 p.m.
