Box Score NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – Freshman forward Matt English (Smithtown, N.Y./Smithtown West) recorded his first career double-double on Tuesday evening but the State University of New York at New Paltz men's basketball team dropped 93-58 non-conference decision at the hands of visiting Stevenson at the Hawk Center.
English tallied 11 points and 10 boards in 18 minutes off the bench for the Hawks (1-11 overall). Freshman Tristan Wissemann (Shelter Island, N.Y./Shelter Island) notched 10 points, going 4-of-6 in 12 minutes in reserve action.
Junior guard Dylan Balducci (Massapequa Park, N.Y./Massapequa) enjoyed a 3-of-5 performance from downtown, finishing with 10 points.
As for the Mustangs (2-13 overall), four players finished in double figures as Tim McNeal led the way with 19 points and 14 boards for the double-double. Cliff Cornish tallied 14 points and nine rebounds.
Despite trailing 49-17 at intermission, the Hawks were outscored by just three in the second half. Wissemann scored all his 10 points in the second stanza while English knocked down nine points and pulled down five boards in the final period.
The Hawks will look to get back on track on Saturday, Jan. 14 as they head to Catskill Cup rival SUNY Oneonta for a 2 p.m. tipoff.
