Men’s Basketball Loses 104-67 at Buffalo State

BUFFALO – Two players finished in double figures for the State University of New York at New Paltz men's basketball team but the Hawks fell at Buffalo State 104-67 in SUNYAC action on Saturday afternoon inside the Buffalo State Sports Arena.

With the defeat, the Hawks fall to 1-15, 0-10 SUNYAC and will look to regroup next weekend, traveling to SUNY Potsdam and SUNY Plattsburgh from Jan. 27-28. The Bengals, meanwhile, improve to 12-5, 6-5 SUNYAC.

Senior forward Andrew Seniuk (Wantagh, N.Y./Wantagh) led the team with 18 points, six rebounds and four steals, going 6-of-10 from the field. Junior guard Dylan Balducci (Massapequa Park, N.Y./Massapequa) joined in double digits with 15 points off the bench, going 6-of-10 from the floor.

Sophomore guard Cory Garcia (Highland, N.Y./Highland) tallied nine points and three assists while sophomore guard Malik Seelal (Farmingdale, N.Y./Farmingdale) provided eight points and five boards.

As for the Bengals, Jordan Glover scored a game-high 24 points while Mike Henry and Lovell Smith followed with 23 and 16 points, respectively.

For the game, New Paltz was hurt by 28 turnovers but both teams shot similar from the field as the Hawks finished 50 percent (25-of-50) and the Bengals finished 51.5 percent (35-of-68).

Unfortunately, the Hawks trailed from the tip but managed to cut the deficit to three (16-13) following a Matt English (Smithtown, N.Y./Smithtown West) layup at 15:09. However, the Bengals went on two large runs after this and took a 55-38 advantage at intermission.

In the second half, New Paltz got to within 14 (71-57) after a three by Balducci with 13:05 on the clock. But the Bengals jumped over several turnovers and put the Hawks in a 38-point hole which the visitors could not recover from.
