SUNY New Paltz Women's Volleyball Sweeps Sage Behind Balanced Attack

Box Score Schenectady, NY – The State University of New York at New Paltz women's volleyball swept the Sage Colleges 25-14, 25-12, 25-22 to open up the Skidmore Tournament. The dominant win marked the 12th win in the last 15 matches for the Hawks.
 
The opening two sets saw consistent play on both offense and defense for the Hawks as they held Sage to four and six kills, respectively, while racking up 14 kills of their own in each set. The SUNY New Paltz defense held the Gators to a .000 hitting percentage while offensively they were able to post a .218 hitting percentage.
 
The third set was a back and forth affair as the Hawks ran four straight points to take a 13-9, but then the Gators went on a run of their own to take a 14-13 lead. At 22-22 freshmen Caleigh Carr stepped up to the serving line and ran the final three straight points to seal the match for SUNY New Paltz.
 
Maddie Zwickl dished out 31 assists on the match, but led a balanced attack for the Hawks. Maddie Van Pelt led the way with 10 kills on 28 swings, but Emma Hines (6), Kerri Neville (6), Taylor Cimillo (5), Demi Herasme (5), and Julie Greenspan (5) all contributed to offense while hitting positive for the match.
 
Meredith Dignan and Veronica Matedero led the defensive effort with 10 and 8 digs, respectively. Van Pelt also recorded three block assists in the straight set win in which the Hawks notched 10 total block assists.
 
"It was a nice tonight, we had a lot of contributions from a lot of people," said head coach Matt Giufre. "In the third set when it got close it was nice to see people come through that aren't always in tight games. Caleigh, in particular, served really well in the last few points to help us seal the match."
 
The Hawks get back on the court tomorrow against Union College at noon and Skidmore College at 2:00 p.m.
