Dole Brothers Go Head-to-Head As SUNY New Paltz Men's Soccer Hosts SUNY Geneseo

| By:
Luke and Liam Dole spent their lives wearing the same uniform. If it was soccer, basketball or baseball the twins from Delmar, New York were always teammates. That is, until last season when they decided to go their separate ways and pursue their soccer careers further at SUNY New Paltz and SUNY Geneseo, respectively.

But Luke and Liam are back on the same field once again Saturday, this time as opponents.

"It is the first time we have been on separate teams are whole lives coming to college," Luke said. "It is definitely going to be fun to see him. Our whole family is going to be here. It is going to be a good time."

Last season, the Doles made the trip to Luke Dole GIFGeneseo to watch Luke and Liam face each other for the first time, and Liam's Knights came away with 2-1 victory. Luke and the Hawks are looking to avenge that loss Saturday in a vital game for SUNY New Paltz, which is looking to end a three-game losing skid.

"It's not really our type [to trash talk], but I would be happy to get a few goals on Geneseo just to rub it in his face a little bit," Luke said. "This one is definitely a little more special. Having a twin brother is pretty special, so to see him on the pitch is really cool."

Luke has totaled two goals and two assists in 563 minutes played at forward this season, while Liam has appeared in two games and has made one start in goal in his two seasons with the Knights.

The brothers train together in the offseason and with their experience playing together, it would be an interesting match up if Liam ends up in net against Luke up top.

"We know each other's tendencies since we train together and have played together all of our lives," Liam said. "I know he goes left all the time. I know which ways he tries to score. If that happens in the game Saturday, I'll save the shot definitely."

Luke disagreed on that point.

"I'll score on him every time," he said. "He's long, but I can beat him."

There wasn't much trash talking heading into the match up this week, but both admitted a conference win is important, but a SUNYAC victory, combined with family bragging rights makes the game even more meaningful.

"The game definitely has a little bit more magnitude," Liam said. "We want to win the game obviously, but as far as the team goes New Paltz and Geneseo are generally pretty even in the standings. So for both teams it is a huge game and the fact that we're brothers it kind of makes it more of a rivalry. It definitely adds to the game. It should be a good one Saturday."Liam Dole head shot

But the bigger question heading in is, what will the Doles be wearing Saturday? Will it be the Hawks blue and orange or the Knights blue and white?

"Last year when my sister came, she wore a Geneseo shirt so I was surprised by that that she was rooting for us, but I guess my parents are more neutral," Liam said. "I like to think they're rooting for Geneseo though."

"I don't know if that was just because he bought her that [t-shirt] and she had nothing else to wear, but I am sure if I bought her a New Paltz Hawks sweatshirt she'd wear it over the Geneseo one," Luke added. "They are 100 percent New Paltz over Geneseo. You'll see on Saturday."
