Box Score Potsdam, NY – The State University of New York at New Paltz men's soccer team dominated hosting SUNY Potsdam Friday to collect its fourth State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) win of the season after the, 4-0 victory.
"I am very happy with the result today," said Hawks coach
Kyle Clancy. "We did a nice job finishing a couple of early chances and kept control of the game well in the first half... Overall a lot of guys contributed to the win, making it a great team effort."
It was three games since the Hawks' and the conference's leading scorer,
Kevin Doorley, found the back of the net. On Friday, the sophomore Pearl River, NY native knocked in three goals to lead his team offensively in the victory. But, his impact was made all over the field, winning the ball, defending to go along with his finishing on the offensive end.
Doorley put away his first in the 10
th minute with an unassisted goal to open up the scoring for SUNY New Paltz.
Sebastian G-S-Archer followed about seven minutes later, heading in a cross from
Nicholas Honor to give the Hawks the, 2-0 lead, which they held at the break.
Midway through the second half Doorley netted his 11
th of the season, capitalizing on an assist by teammate
Manny Flory. In the 81
st, Doorley notched his first career hat-trick, scoring off a pass from Victor Lifschitz to boost the score, 4-0.
"The first 10 minutes of the second half Potsdam put the pressure on, but the guys worked hard to fight through a rough stretch and settled in to create some good chances leading to a nice third goal on a great counter attack," Clancy said.
SUNY New Paltz (9-4-2 overall, 4-2-1 SUNYAC) held the advantage over the Bears (4-8-1, 0-6) in total shots (19-6), shots on target (8-1) and corners (6-1). Doorley paced the Hawks with nine shots – four of which were on target.
Marc DePasquale earned his seventh-straight start and tallied one save in the win.
The Hawks are back in action Saturday, playing against Plattsburgh State, which is coming off a 1-1 tie against SUNY Oneonta Friday. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m.
