New Paltz, N.Y. – The State University of New York at New Paltz women's lacrosse team continued its hot start to the season with a 15-7 victory over Marywood University on a frigid Friday afternoon on the North Turf Field. The Hawks improved their record to 3-0, while the Pacers fall to 2-4.

"Our record is a testament to the work they've put in and continue to put in," Hawks head coach Keith Detelj said. "We've put three really good performances together and we just want to keep that momentum going. If we can continue to focus on the things that have made us successful I think we'll do just that."

SUNY New Paltz got off to a quick start, jumping out to an 8-1 lead in the first half. However, Marywood scored three of the next four goals to cut the deficit to 9-4 at halftime.

Back-to-back goals by Hawks junior midfielder Rachael Purtell and SUNY New Paltz freshman attack Tara Bovich to start the second half killed the Pacers' momentum and increased the Hawks' lead to 11-4.

SUNY New Paltz did not let up on offense, tacking on four more goals before the dust settled for a final score of 15-7.

"They did a really good job of keeping Marywood on their heels and responding to any kind of momentum swing," Detelj said. "Marywood plays a different style than any of the other teams we have faced this season. It's good to see us be successful against different types of teams."

Bovich scored a team-high four goals and collected one ground ball, while Purtell recorded, three goals, two assists, four ground balls, two caused turnovers and one draw control.

Hawks sophomore midfielder Jennifer O'Leary and SUNY New Paltz freshman attack Amy Hofer each scored three goals, with Hofer adding one assist and one ground ball.

Hawks senior attack Caitlyn Morris notched a team-high four assists to go along with one goal and one ground ball. SUNY New Paltz junior midfielder Ashley Seiter chipped in with one goal while causing two turnovers and collecting two ground balls.

Hawks freshman defender Megan Tornatore led the team with five draw controls, while SUNY New Paltz freshman midfielder Keydy Espinoza and Hawks junior defender Sarah Raynock controlled four and three draws, respectively.

SUNY New Paltz sophomore goalkeeper Nicole Sheintul won her third game of the season by making nine stops in goal.

"I definitely felt better today than the last two games," Sheintul said. "I was mentally tough throughout the highs and lows during the game and that was the difference. We're all really excited to come out and show everybody what we've worked hard for."

The Hawks look to remain undefeated when they travel to Stockton University for a 3 p.m. match on Monday, March 19. The Ospreys currently hold a record of 3-1.
