Coming off just its second loss of the season Wednesday, the State University of New York at New Paltz men's soccer team is anxious to return to the field Saturday to take on King's College on the road and get back in the win column.
"One thing we talked about [after Vassar] was starting the game how we finished the game," said Hawks senior midfielder
Khalil Scott-Ludewig. "We had a tough first half going against Vassar and second half we picked up our momentum. We switched up our formation and it seemed to work better. We got more opportunities."
SUNY New Paltz went into its matchup against the Brewers winning four of five games, with its only loss coming at home against New York University. The Hawks offense has started the season explosively, averaging more than three goals per game. But, against Vassar they had a slow start and were held to a season-low one shot on target, while getting shut out for the first time this season.
Heading into Saturday's game against the Monarch's, SUNY New Paltz is switching back to what led them to its four wins and 17 goals on the year, knowing its offense must improve from Wednesday's loss in order to steal a win against King's.
"One of the things that I thought we did very well in our first five games was putting the ball in the back of the net," Scott-Ludewig said. "I think we had our opportunities, but we didn't finish well, as we usually have been. I think working on our offense is key, moving the ball around and finishing our opportunities is very key to us winning games and scoring as many goals as possible."
The Hawks defeated the Monarch's at home last season, 3-1, after starting the game hot with two goals within the first 40 minutes to propel the victory.
King's College (3-2-1) heads into Saturday's contest winning three in a row and out-scoring the opposition, 7-0, during the stretch. Aidan DeCamillo leads the team offensively with two goals, one assist and 15 shots on the year. Owen Geedey has played every minute in net and is allowing 0.32 goals against through six games with 12 saves made.
