The State University of New York at New Paltz women's soccer team will head to Saratoga Springs to play Skidmore College Saturday. The Hawks are 0-3 this season, while the Thoroughbreds are 2-0.
"My expectations are really high going into our next game because even though it wasn't the results we wanted on paper, our last game was some of our best work so far and we just have our heads held high going forward and [are] hoping for a win," said SUNY New Paltz sophomore
Monika Morasse.
The Hawks have made adjustments in practice to correct the flaws which led to a 0-4 defeat to Montclair State University Thursday. The women struggled defensively, allowing their opponents 24 shots on goal. The Red Hawks scored twice in the first half and twice in the second, but SUNY New Paltz was able to make eight saves between goalkeepers sophomore Megan Tornetore and junior
Angela Ratka.
"We've been focusing a lot on our forward movement; moving off the ball, making diagonal runs, trying to find through balls because we've been struggling in our attack recently," said Hawks sophomore
Taylor Filippone, "So we're really focusing from the midfield to our forwards how we can connect better passes in the end, go to goal and finish."
SUNY New Paltz coach
Mike Eckberg praised the women on their ability to work together and communication skills.
"Coming in since preseason has started we've all been really connected, even like not knowing the new girls that much we all, right off the bat, have been really connected, really intermingling and I think it's really helped us on the field as long. As we're communicating- that's when our most success has come to us," Morasse said.
"It's gonna be a tough one, each and every game progressively gets tougher," added Filippone. "I'm expecting it to be physical, fasted paced. But i think with everything we've been working on in practice hopefully we can see some results."
