SUNY New Paltz Field Hockey Secures 11-0 Rout on the Road Over Morrisville State

Morrisville, NY – The State University of New York at New Paltz field hockey team handily secured its 10th-straight victory over Morrsville State (1-13 overall, 0-5 SUNYAC) Saturday. The Hawks went on the road and scored a season-high 11 goals in an 11-0 victory.

"Today we kept the pace for the entire 60 minutes and put a lot of pressure in their attacking end," said SUNY New Paltz coach Shanna Szablinski. "It was nice to see multiple players scoring and playing throughout the game."

The Hawks (9-5, 3-1) saw seven players finding the back of the net Saturday with two players earning a spot in the SUNY New Paltz record books. Freshman forward Jamie Wagner scored a career-high three goals to become the 12th Hawk to record a hat-trick, joining current teammates Carly Corteau and Jessica Ascencao. Ascencao became the fifth player in program history to register three assists in a game, joining current teammate Sophia Urrutia, who also recorded a goal on Saturday.Jamie Wagner GIF

SUNY New Paltz jumped out to a four-goal advantage after the first 15 minutes with Croteau, Wagner and Shannon Bernhardt all registering scores. The Hawks then tacked on two goals before the half and added three and two more in the third and fourth quarters, respectively.

The Hawks totaled 14 shots in the first quarter and a game-high 19 in the third quarter and ultimately out-shot the Mustangs, 47-3, in the game. SUNY New Paltz put 31 attempts on frame, while Morrisville had just one. The Hawks also held the advantage on corners, 13-1.

Mackenzie Mortimer made two saves for SUNY New Paltz in the shutout, while Mustangs goalie Morgan Dueber registered 20 stops.

Following Wagner offensively was Croteau, who totaled two goals and an assist. Rachel Beam added two goals, while Christina Pedone recorded a goal and an assist on the day and Natasia Plunkett chipped in with one goal.

The Hawks remain in conference play in their next outing, as they host SUNY Cortland for a re-match of last season's State University of New York Athletic Conference championship game. The matchup will also serve as a "Green Out" game with the team asking fans to wear green in support of mental health awareness. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
