Buffalo, NY – The State University of New York at New Paltz men's soccer team took its second consecutive conference loss Friday after following in double overtime, 2-1 to hosting Buffalo State.
First half was seemingly even with the Hawks garnering six chances on frame and four corners, while the Bengals didn't accumulate any corner kick opportunities within the first 45 minutes, but out-shot SUNY New Paltz, 10-6.

Ali Shawish of Buffalo State earned his team the 1-0 advantage in the 12th minute with Theo Pencic credited for the assist on the play. The Hawks found the back of the net shortly after in the 18th minute of play, as
James Maltes scored his team-leading sixth goal of the season to even the score.
The score stayed tied at ones for another 80-plus minutes, but the Hawks struggled defensively in the second half. The Bengals out-shot SUNY New Paltz, 10-3 in the last 45 minutes and also found more chances on net in the two extra time periods. Eventually Buffalo State capitalized, as Nemanja Simic ended the evening with the golden goal in the 102nd minute to push his team to a 2-1 win.
"The goal came down to poor defending on our part as a team, and a good finish by them," said Hawks coach
Kyle Clancy.
The Bengals improved to 9-1 overall and 2-1 in the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) with the result, while SUNY New Paltz dropped to 6-4 overall and 0-2 in SUNYAC.
Marc DePasquale played all 102 minutes in goal for the Hawks, making six saves. Maltes and
Kevin Doorley each had three shots to lead the team, followed by
Ryan Hilliard with two. Andreas Queen earned the win for Buffalo State after totaling five stops in net.
"First half was fairly even. We both had some chances and each goalkeeper made some good saves to keep it tied up. We were completely out-played in the second half and struggled with our individual defending, our cover and our ability to win the ball back," Clancy said. "We will have to defend much better going forward and will have to be better on the ball, as we were just too slow, too negative and struggled to handle the pace of the game second half."
SUNY New Paltz will look to bounce back in its next outing Saturday, facing Fredonia State for a 1 p.m. match.
