Coming off an impressive season opening win at home against Baruch Saturday, the State University of New York at New Paltz faces another tough test when it plays in its first road game of the season Tuesday against Farmingdale.
Â
The Hawks (1-0 overall) haven't started the season 2-0 since 2013, but have a great opportunity to do so against the Rams. They scored 90 points in their debut, with four different double-digit scorers in the game. SUNY New Paltz will look to build on that performance against a Farmingdale team that won its Skyline conference championship a year ago.Â
Jake Passaretti earned his first PrestoSports/SUNYAC men's basketball Athlete of the Week honor after leading the Hawks with 22 points, seven steals, five rebounds and five assists against the Bearcats, while shooting an efficient 6-for-15 from the field, including 4-for-6 from 3-point range in just 28 minutes of action. His seven steals were tied for second-most in a single game in Hawks history.
Richard Altenord followed in an impressive debut for SUNY New Paltz, as the junior transfer made 7-of-11 from the floor for 17 points on the night, while adding five boards, three assists, three blocks and a steal.
RJ Meyers-Turner also had an impressive debut, as the freshman put up 18 points off the bench for the Hawks, shooting 6-for-11 from the field and 3-for-4 from behind the arc.
Â
For Farmingdale, it started off the year with a tough loss against Division I Stony Brook University, 91-44 Monday. In 2018, the Rams finished 20-8 overall and 16-4 in conference play, ultimately ending their run in the first round of the NCAA Tournament against University of Rochester.
Â
Farmingdale graduated its top three leading scorers from a year ago, returning just two players — seniors Ryan Kennedy and Jermaine Fraser — who started more than half of its games last season. Kennedy averaged more than 11 points per game last season, while Fraser put up nearly seven points per game and was the team's second-best rebounder, totaling about five a contest.
Â
The Hawks are scheduled to take on the Rams Tuesday for a 7 p.m. tip-off.
