SUNY New Paltz Field Hockey Drops Regular Season Finale 3-0 to Ithaca College

New Paltz, NY — The State University of New York at New Paltz concluded its regular season with a 3-0 loss to visiting Ithaca College Saturday.

The Hawks (10-7 overall) didn't have their best outing against the Bombers (12-6), unable to generate any offense and was shut out for just the second time on the season. Montclair State, which at the time was ranked at No. 13 in the country, was the only other team to hold SUNY New Paltz scoreless this season, as the Hawk fell 1-0 to the Red Hawks back on Sept. 4.

Kristen Rafferty got the day started for Ithaca, scoring the opening goal with about five minutes left in the first quarter. Natalie Milliken recorded the assist on the play. Morgan Mullen then added another goal for the Bombers in the second quarter, while Rafferty capped off the day for her team with her second of the game midway through the third quarter.

The matchup was fairly equal in opportunities on the offensive end, with the Hawks recording 12 shots, eight of which were on goal, while Ithaca registered 11 shots, 10 on goal. SUNY New Paltz held the advantage in corners, 8-3.

Carly Croteau led the Hawks with five shots, followed by Jamie Wagner and Natasia Plunkett with three and two, respectively. Mackenzie Mortimer finished with seven saves in goal for the hosts.

With the game being its last home contest of the season, SUNY New Paltz honored its four seniors: Kaitlyn Gunter, Sophia Urrutia, Rachel Beam and Sarah Swift prior to the game.

The Hawks are back in action Wednesday when they begin their postseason run on the road against SUNY Cortland in a conference semifinal matchup. The game is slated for a 2 p.m. start.
