Coming off its first loss of the season against Farmingdale State more than a week ago, the State University of New York at New Paltz is back on the floor Wednesday night, taking on hosting The Sage Colleges for a 7 p.m. matchup.
Â
The Hawks (1-1 overall) have shown their explosiveness offensively, averaging more than 90 points per game with five different players already reaching double-figure point totals in either or both outings. However, SUNY New Paltz struggled defensively in their last outing with the Rams exploiting the Hawks by getting them in early foul trouble in the, 90-93 loss. Farmingdale had 48 attempts at the line in the game with three players for SUNY New Paltz fouling out.Â
The Hawks will look to bounce back Wednesday against the Gators, who are coming off a split weekend at the Wesleyan University Tip-Off Tournament where they redeemed itself from a 78-44 loss against the hosting Cardinals to earn a 92-85 victory over University of Maine at Presque Isle.
Â
Along with the Owls, Sage has earned wins against Elms and Purchase College to open up the season. Through their four games, the Gators have averaged nearly 74 points per game, shooting about 41 percent from the field, but have struggled from the foul line (69%) and from behind the arc (28%). Stuart Phair leads the team with 13.5 points and 7.5 rebounds per game, followed by Darius Denmark (10.3 points, 3 assists per game) and Anthony Mitchell (10 points, 7.8 rebounds per game).
Â
For the Hawks,
Jake Passaretti paces the team with 19 points per game, followed by
Tristan Wissemann (16 ppg) and
RJ Meyers-Turner (15 ppg), with the latter coming off the bench in the team's opening two contests.
Isaiah Bien-Aise leads SUNY New Paltz on the boards, averaging nearly 11 per game. Â
