For the first time in program history, the State University of New York at New Paltz women's basketball program earned a top-25 ranking in the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) NCAA Division III poll, which was released Tuesday.
The No. 25 nationally ranked Hawks (18-4 overall, 14-1 SUNYAC) are currently on a 14-game winning streak, looking for No. 15 Tuesday on the road against SUNY Cortland.
They were named No. 1 in the East Region in the first regional ranking of the season Feb. 7.
SUNY New Paltz is just two years removed from an NCAA Sweet 16 run with more than half of its players still remaining from that roster, including senior
Lindsay Bettke who recently joined the Hawks' 1,000-point club a few weeks ago and ranks fourth in the conference in points per game (15.6), behind teammate
Rachel Simon who is second, averaging 18.8 points a contest.
Following its matchup Tuesday against the Red Dragons, SUNY New Paltz has two regular season games remaining Friday and Saturday against SUNY Potsdam and Plattsburgh State, respectively, in the Hawk Center. If the Hawks win-out their last three games they will finish with the best State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) record in program history at just one loss.
SUNY New Paltz is set to tip-off against SUNY Cortland Tuesday in Whitney T. Corey Gymnasium at 4 p.m. To stay up to date with everything #NPHawks be sure to follow us onÂ
