SUNY New Paltz Baseball Fall On the Road to NYU, 2-1

| By:
Box Score Brooklyn, N.Y — The State University Of New York at New Paltz baseball team (7-5 overall, 0-3 SUNYAC) was defeated 2-1 by New York University (11-3) Wednesday at MCU Park on Coney Island.

Violet starting pitcher Ford Ladd threw 7.1 innings to grab a tightly contested game, evening the record between the two teams on the year after having lost to the Hawks 5-4 at the RussMatt Florida Invitational March 17.

The ballgame was still scoreless as the teams entered the bottom of the sixth, but a Violets two-run double gave them enough of a lead to get the win.

SUNY New Paltz only managed four hits throughout the game, but got a run back in the eighth inning as Hawks infielder Joshua Pena scored on a wild pitch by NYU pitcher John Gassler.

"The pitching on both sides was pretty good today," said Hawks coach Thomas Seay. "We had a bit of a breeze coming in so balls that would've been drop shots any other day were brought down."

The Hawks couldn't tie the game up in the ninth as the NYU bullpen held strong. SUNY New Paltz now looks to get its first State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) wins of the season this weekend against Oswego State.

"We have to approach Oswego just like any other day," Seay continued, "we need to get back out with a good day of preparation tomorrow, take the loss, don't dwell on it and get ready for Friday."

The Hawks hit off against SUNY Oswego on Friday at 2 p.m. in New Paltz
