New Paltz, NY -- Not getting the result it wanted, the State university of New York at New Paltz baseball team was swept by Oswego State Saturday, losing game two, 6-0 and game three, 12-2.

"I thought we got two really good starts game two and game three," said Hawks coach Thomas Seay. "We had opportunities in game one and game two with runners in scoring position and we just couldn't come up with that big base hit. Those things happen when you play good teams, but we have to find better ways to win."

SUNY New Paltz had an opportunity in the first inning to tack on some runs, with sophomore outfielder David Juechter walking and advancing to second on a wild pitch after senior outfielder Danny Campbell struck out. Junior catcher and outfielder Matt McGee also walked, but a fly out by first baseman Justin Ganca gave the Hawks their second out. Juechter advanced again on another wild pitch, then sophomore designated hitter Dean Stalzer walked to load the bases. SUNY New Paltz couldn't capitalize however, leaving three runs on the field. baseball_huddle

Junior pitcher Anthony Amoroso chucked 4.1 innings of shutout baseball in the first game against the Lakers, but was pulled due to an issue with a blister on his pitching hand. In a tight, well-pitched ballgame, the Hawks gave up their first two runs in the fifth inning after Oswego State scored on a two-RBI base hit.

After SUNY New Paltz couldn't capitalize with a man on second in the bottom of the inning, the Lakers came back with two more runs in the top of the sixth inning to go up 4-0. The scoring continued in the next inning, pouring on two more to take a 6-0 lead and ultimately the win.

Oswego State continued its success early in the second game, scoring the first run in the second inning off an error. The Hawks had runners on second and third in the bottom half of the inning with one out but couldn't get a run across.

The Lakers continued the scoring in the third inning, putting two more runs on the board on a double and a wild pitch to go up, 4-0. SUNY New Paltz finally got its first runs of the day in the bottom of the inning to put up a fight, with Ganca getting hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and Stalzer earning an RBI on a single to come behind two.

Senior pitcher Mike Delio settled in in the top of the fourth with a scoreless inning, but Oswego State continued scoring in the fifth inning, putting up four more runs to gain a six-run lead. The Hawks went 1-2-3 in both the sixth and seventh, but didn't give up a run to stay within the game.

SUNY New Paltz couldn't score a run, and the Lakers put on a four more in the ninth to seal the series sweep with a 12-2 victory.

"We'll get back it on Monday with a busy week ahead of us," Seay said. "We're not out of it quite yet."

The Hawks take on Rowan University Tuesday, Stevens Institute of Technology Wednesday and have a three-game series against The College at Brockport next weekend. To stay up to date with everything #NPHawks be sure to follow us on Twitter at @nphawks, Instagram and Facebook at @newpaltzhawks, and subscribe to our Youtube channel, New Paltz Hawks.
