Cortland, NY – For the third time this season, State University of New York at New Paltz softball freshman
Katie Quagliana was named as the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNAYC) Pitcher of the Week.
Quagliana produced back-to-back complete game shutout victories for the Hawks (19-8 overall, 6-4 SUNYAC), including an impressive seven-inning 1-0 win against SUNY Oneonta Saturday. Against the Red Dragons, Quagliana gave up just seven hits and three walks with three strikeouts, while forcing 12 groundouts throughout the game, allowing a stout SUNY New Paltz defense to back her up. She stranded seven runners on base to help cement her fourth complete game shutout of the season.
In a lopsided five-inning victory April 10 against Purchase College, Quagliana only needed to throw four innings in a 8-0 rout. She gave up just three hits with one walk and a strikeout in the victory.
Along with leading her team in the circle, Quagliana was also the most productive batter for the Hawks this week, hitting .333 with three runs and a RBI to help her team win three of four games.
Quagliana currently leads all of SUNYAC with 11 wins and is tied for third for the most complete games, while ranking first in innings pitched (86) and fourth in ERA (1.86).
SUNY New Paltz is back in action Friday and Saturday this week, coming home to face SUNY Potsdam and Plattsburgh State, respectively.
