Louisville, KY — The National Fastpitch Coaches Association announced its All-Region teams Friday with the State University of New York New Paltz garnering a program-most five selections including first team honors for seniors
Alex Frenza and
Kelsey O'Brien.
The Hawks totaled a program most selections to the All-Region III team after compiling a record of 31-10 overall and winning the regular season of the SUNYAC after finishing 17-1 in their final stint in the league. The result was a sweep of postseason awards, which aided in a record-setting All-Region recognition with junior shortstop
Ava Thys (second team), junior first baseman
Ella Sharrock (third team) and freshman outfielder
Jenna Carmody (third team) joining Frenza and O'Brien on the list with each individual enjoying their first ever All-Region honor.
The previous most selections for SUNY New Paltz was three, which came in 2023 as only 11 total players in program history prior to this year have been selected to the prestigious honor with the five joining the ranks in 2026. For O'Brien and Frenza, the first team selection puts them in connection for All-America honors. The only All-American selection in program history came in 2008 in Hawks Hall of Famer Lauren Motzkin.
The NFCA All-Region award honors student-athletes from the Association's 10 regions with selection to one of three teams. NFCA member head coaches nominate and then vote for the winners in their respective region. From Region III, the five Hawks were joined by three others from the SUNYAC which included SUNY Cortland catcher Shelby LaMont (first team), pitcher Olivia DiSalvo (second team), DP Laila Smith (second team) and Buffalo State third baseman Lexy Quagliana (third team).
Frenza joins 2024 alumna Lindsay Roman as the only other pitcher in program history to be selected as an All-Region pick for SUNY New Paltz, which included a first-team selection. She was a key transfer for the Hawks coming from Division I College of Staten Island.
The New Paltz, NY native was dominant through 21 starts and 23 appearances, garnering a record of 16-6, which tied for fourth-most in single season history. She tallied 19 complete games and nine shutouts, throwing three no-hitters and a perfect game — unheard of in a single year for any Hawk. She registered an ERA of 1.69, WHIP of 1.01, while allowing opposing hitters to bat just .189 against. In a team-leading 132.1 inning's pitched, Frenza gave up just 88 hits, 32 earned runs and 46 walks while totaling a team-most 147 strikeouts.
O'Brien closes out an illustrious four years with her first All-Region nod after garnering SUNYAC Defensive Player of the Year and First-Team All-SUNYAC honors.
The Monroe, NY native batted .424 with an OPS of 1.113, slugging percentage of .616 and on-base percentage of .497 after starting in all 41 games. She added 53 hits, 37 runs 14 extra base hits, 77 total bases and 30 RBI with 15 walks and a team-leading 15 stolen bases.
Thys was another welcome addition to SUNY New Paltz after spending two years at SUNY Oneonta. She picked up All-Region honors after solidifying the Hawks' lead-off spot, as she hit .368 with an OPS of .944, slugging percentage of .496 and on-base-percentage of .448. She tallied 49 hits, 33 runs, 12 extra base hits and 17 RBI in 133 at-bats while starting in all 41 games.
Sharrock had a career season en route to SUNYAC Player of the Year and All-Region III honors. The Selden, NY native re-set the single season home run and RBI record, while tying the single season doubles record, finishing second in single season program history in runs and third in hits and became the program's all-time home run leader this year to boot.
Sharrock hit .473 with an OPS of 1.371, slugging percentage of .885 and on-base-percentage of .486. She tallied a team-most 62 hits, 41 runs, 19 doubles, nine home runs, 32 extra base hits and 116 total bases in 131 at-bats, while starting all 41 games. She also added five walks and eight stolen bases, while only striking out 16 times on the year.
Carmody earned her way into the lineup through her defensive prowess as a freshman, manning right field duties and came up with big numbers to solidify the bottom of the Hawks' lineup in 2026.
She hit .403, third best among eligible players for SUNY New Paltz, only behind Sharrock and O'Brien. She appeared in 35 games with 28 starts and totaled 29 hits in 72 at-bats, adding 18 runs, six extra base hits and 16 RBI with an OPS of .946, slugging percentage of .500 and on-base-percentage of .446. She was also lethal on the base paths, finishing second on the team in stolen bases while going 12-for-14.
