Glassboro, NJ -- The State University of New York at New Paltz baseball team lost its sixth game in a row Tuesday, dropping a non-conference matchup to the No. 7 team in the nation, Rowan University.

"The one positive about today is that we showed we're not that far out," said Hawks coach Thomas Seay. "We got a quality start from Billy [Moeller] today, but still didn't execute with runners in scoring position. Doing that against a team like Rowan is just insurmountable." Juechter

SUNY New Paltz came out ready to fight in the top of the first against the Owls, with sophomore outfielder David Juechter hitting a lead-off double. Juechter was later thrown out at third, and a strikeout by junior catcher and outfielder Matt McGee gave the Hawks two outs. After senior first baseman Justin Ganca walked and senior Danny Campbell stole both second and third getting on by a fielder's choice, sophomore first baseman Dean Stalzer hit an RBI single to give SUNY New Paltz a 1-0 lead.

Freshman pitcher Billy Moeller threw a 1-2-3 inning in the first, giving the Hawks another opportunity to score runs in the second inning. Senior infielder Ryan Frost led off the inning with his first collegiate home run, putting SUNY New Paltz up 2-0 in a much needed game.

Moeller gave up one run in the second inning and one in the third allowing Rowan to tie the game at two, but later settled in to give a solid performance. He pitched 6.1 innings and was pulled in the seventh after giving the Hawks a chance to win.

SUNY New Paltz gave up a run after Moeller was pulled to go down 3-2 in the seventh. Unable to get a run in the top of the eighth inning, the Hawks gave up four more runs in the bottom of the inning to go down, 7-2.

Campbell hit a lead-off double to start the ninth, but SUNY New Paltz could never score runs and ultimately lost at that score. The Hawks hope to bounce back with a matchup at home against Stevens Institute of Technology Wednesday.
