Box Score Poughkeepsie, NY — The State University of New York at New Paltz baseball team dropped a non-conference matchup to Vassar College Wednesday, 14-4.
"We're going to give our best effort and try to win this weekend," said Hawks coach
Thomas Seay. "Moving forward, we're evaluating where we are as a program and will make those decisions after the season."
SUNY New Paltz got on the board first in the game in the top of the first inning, when senior outfielder
Danny Campbell got the first runner on off an error. Sophomore outfielder
David Juechter knocked him home on an RBI single, giving the Hawks a 1-0 lead headed in the second inning.
Things spiraled for SUNY New Paltz in the bottom of the second, giving up nine runs to the Brewers to break the game open early down, 9-1. The Hawks tacked on three in the top of the third inning however, with an RBI groundout from junior
Julian Francisco and a two-RBI double from junior catcher Zachary Warenius to come behind, 9-4. It would not be enough, as Vassar College's offense continued soon after in the game.
The Brewers scored three more in the bottom of the third inning off a sacrifice fly and a two-RBI triple to go up 12-4 and SUNY New Paltz did not have an answer. Vassar College would score two more in the bottom of the sixth inning to go up 14-4 and seal the win.
