Cortland, NY --- The State University of New York at New Paltz softball team swept the weekly honors of State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Pitcher and Athlete of the Week Tuesday.
Sophomores
Emily Fox and
Nina Simms were named Pitcher and Athlete of the Week, respectively, after helping guide the Hawks (25-10 overall, 12-6 SUNYAC) to six wins over the week.

Fox currently leads the team in ERA (2.13), complete games (11) and strikeouts (82), while earning three more wins this week in four starts. In a 7-1 win against SUNY Potsdam, Fox went a full seven innings, giving up six hits, no earned runs and one walk, while striking out eight batters. She then picked up back-to-back victories against Fredonia and Buffalo State, winning 12-1 and 12-5, respectively, while going the full game in both outings. Against the Blue Devils, she gave up just three hits and one earned run with six strikeouts in five-innings pitched, and then went another seven-innings against the Bengals. The Commack, NY native conceded just seven hits, three earned runs and two walks, while registering seven strikeouts. In five appearances this week, Fox accumulated a stingy 1.38 ERA, while recording 26 strikeouts in 25.1 innings pitched.
Simms has been the x-factor in ignited SUNY New Paltz offense as of late. She batted a staggering .615 with 16 hits in 26 at-bats against the Cardinals, Bears, Bengals and Blue Devils this week, leading her team to a postseason berth for the first time since 2017.
In the Hawks series against SUNY Potsdam, Simms went 4-for-6 with four runs and seven RBIs, including hitting her first career home run. She then went 3-for-3 in game-one against Plattsburgh, while then going 2-for-4 in game two, accumulating two RBIs with two doubles. Simms, a John Jay East Fishkill graduate, went 3-for-7 in SUNY New Paltz's doubleheader against Fredonia and then went 4-for-6 in a sweep over Buffalo State, adding a run scored in the series.
The Hawks are back in action Thursday, taking on SUNY Oneonta in the first round of the SUNYAC playoffs at 1 p.m. in Cortland, NY.
