SUNY New Paltz Women's Soccer Fall 3-0 on the Road Against FDU-Florham

Madison, NJ — The State University of New York New Paltz women's soccer team concluded the tail end of a back-to-back with a loss to Fairleigh Dickinson-Florham Sunday afternoon.

After Saturday's loss to Manhattanville, SUNY New Paltz fell to the Devils, 3-0 to drop to 1-4-1 on the season. The shutout marks the second time this season the Hawks have been held scoreless.

"We will not win another game this season if we don't take defensive set pieces seriously," Hawks coach Mike Eckberg said.

The Devils started the scoring in the 22nd minute when Tatiana Nieto found Stephanie Corea who buried her shot.

Six minutes later, Hawks midfielder Alex Wild had an opportunity for her third goal of the season, but it was saved by Devils keeper Ashley Paulino.

SUNY New Paltz goalie Megan Tornatore and the Hawks defense kept Fairleigh Dickinson-Florham off the board for the remainder of the first half. However, the Devils came out firing in the second half, as they got off five shots in the first 10 minutes. They all came up empty, and it appeared the Hawks were in the game.

But in the 66th minute Devils midfielder Barbara Ferreira played a long ball to Erika Pita who only had to beat Tornatore to score and give her team a two-goal lead. She did just that.

Less than 10 minutes later, Devils forward Erica Martin was fouled inside the box for a penalty kick. It was SUNY New Paltz's first penalty of the season. Martin buried the shot and put her team up 3-0 with 17:50 left in the game.

It was too late for any sort of Hawks comeback, and outside of a corner kick in the 82nd minute and a shot by Ciara Devlin in the 84th minute, SUNY New Paltz did not have any opportunities late in the game.

The Hawks finished the outing with four shots on goal, three corner kicks, and Tornatore had seven saves.

SUNY New Paltz will look to bounce back on Wednesday when it travels to Bard for a 7 p.m. contest.
