SUNY New Paltz Women's Soccer Falls 4-0 at Home Against Catskill Cup Rival Oneonta

NEW PALTZ, NY — The State University of New York New Paltz women's soccer team fell to 3-5-1 after a 4-0 loss to SUNY Oneonta on Saturday.

The loss marks the Hawks' first loss at home in 2019, first conference loss of the season and extends their losing streak against the Red Dragons to eight consecutive games.

"It's an utter disappointment overall in all facets of the game," Hawks coach Mike Eckberg said. "There were no positives from today."

SUNY Oneonta started the scoring early in the game when Christina Kornfeld found the back of the net off a corner kick in the fifth minute.

"It was disappointing to concede the first goal on a corner kick. It was exactly what we showed on film," Eckberg said.

The Red Dragons never looked back, as they dominated possession and controlled the ball in the midfield and their offensive third.

Less than 15 minutes after Kornfeld's goal, SUNY Oneonta struck again extending its lead to two. This time Seaver Lipshie scored off a pretty pass from Emma Kirkpatrick.

The Red Dragons scored their third goal of the first half in the 31st minute. Kornfeld buried the shot for her second goal of the game.

With a comfortable 3-0 lead in the second half, SUNY Oneonta was not content. In the 71st minute Abbey Wood fired a shot past Hawks keeper Megan Tornatore for her first goal of the season.

The Hawks will look to bounce back next weekend in a SUNYAC double header. Buffalo State comes to New Paltz on Friday for a 4 p.m. game. The Hawks will stay at home Saturday for a 1 p.m. match versus SUNY Fredonia.

"Understanding that we were not sound in any aspect of the game, we need to be able to hit reset in every aspect of the game—technically, tactically, psychologically and physically," Eckberg said.
