Ariana Andretta worked at the State University of New York at New Paltz Athletic, Wellness Center for three-plus years before graduating in 2018. During her time working on the Wellness and Recreation side of the house for the Hawks, she filled many roles, including as a general exercise instructor teaching Zumba, Burlesque, Daisy Duke Glutes and Cardio Hip-Hop and also manned the front desk.
Andretta talked about her time at the College, working within the department and why there is only one SUNY New Paltz.
"I knew that where I decided to further learn and grow in my education would say a lot about who I am as a being and who I would become once my four years were up. I grew up in NYC, surrounded by concrete and bustling traffic, so I knew that my time upstate could provide me with something else — a way to be grounded. New Paltz seemed to be one of those towns that preserve its energy. It is an artistic hub rooted in community with beautifully scenic views and the space to breathe as the beginnings of "adult" life are coming at you. There was a distinct feeling of awareness inside of me during my first visit to campus and it guided me to choose this place as my future home. My initial deposit was handed in later that day and it was that simple for me. I entered college as a public relations major and left as a passionate storyteller now pursuing theatre and choreography. My professors are still wonderful mentors/creative sounding boards in my professional life and my peers are often the first whom I call on when working on projects because they became incredible friends. You should want a collegiate experience that can give you the chance to understand yourself and feel connected as both a student and being throughout your learning experience. I would encourage someone to choose a program where you can find exactly that because it is what I found through SUNY New Paltz."
