Danny Campbell starred on the State University of New York at New Paltz baseball team since coming on as a freshman in 2016. He continued to improve every single year and had his best season as a Hawk in 2019 during his senior campaign. After hitting .283 in 92 at-bats with 12 runs scored as a junior, he bested those numbers the following season to hit .302 in 126 at-bats, while leading the team with 28 runs to go along with 23 RBI on the season.

Along with being a team leader and one of the Hawks' best players, Campbell also excelled in the classroom as a Digital Media Programming and Management major. He was named to the SUNYAC All-Academic team as a freshman, and then earned his way on the SUNYAC Commissioner's Academic List his junior and senior seasons, along with being enshrined in the Chi Alpha Sigma National Honor Society.Â

Through his experiences as a Hawk, Campbell talked about why there is only one SUNY New Paltz.
Â
"I love New Paltz because there's a culture and environment here that's incredibly unique. From the moment I got here I immediately felt welcomed and accepted. The culture amongst the athletes is unbelievably close. Right away I found myself making life long type friends. In New Paltz, nobody judges anyone. The teams I've been on have had such a diverse group of personalities, yet everyone accepts each other for who they are and becomes closer after accepting and appreciating everyone's differences. This culture is not unique to the baseball team, but spread throughout the athletes here. I know that if I ever got into any situation where I needed help, another athlete would be there for me. It's such a close knit athlete community that I'm confident even someone on another team who I may have never officially met would have my back or offer help if I needed, just because they know I'm in their community. That's what I love about New Paltz. It's uncanny how such a diverse student base can come together and accept one another. It creates such a bulletproof culture that allows our teams and our department to thrive."
