New Paltz, NY —The United Soccer Coaches Association released its regional and national rankings for the sixth time this season and on Tuesday the State University of New York at New Paltz men's soccer team rose up to the top-20, as the Hawks were ranked No. 19 in the nation.
SUNY New Paltz (11-3 overall, 6-1 SUNYAC) received its first national ranking in more than a century last week after an exciting 1-0 overtime victory over then No. 5 nationally ranked SUNY Oneonta. The Hawks split this past weekend's road contests, defeating Fredonia, 1-0 before falling to Buffalo State, 3-1.
Along with being in the top-19 on the national poll, SUNY New Paltz remains second in Region III behind SUNY Cortland, which moved up to No. 9 in the country. The Hawks will face the Red Dragons on the road Saturday with the winner likely earning the top seed in the SUNYAC Tournament.
Behind Cortland and SUNY New Paltz in Region III is SUNY Oneonta, followed by RPI, University of Rochester, RIT, Vassar and rising into the top-8 in the region are the Bengals who sit at 11-3-1 overall following their victory against the Hawks Oct. 23.
