Syracuse, NY —The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) released its weekly awards Monday with Hawks junior
Jess Funke earning SUNYAC/PrestoSports Women's Soccer Defensive Athlete of the Week honors.

Funke joins teammate
Sky Pedroza as a recipient for the weekly honor, as Pedroza was named as the Offensive Athlete of the Week Sept. 20.

Funke was pivotal in two road wins for SUNY New Paltz over the weekend in SUNY Potsdam and SUNY Plattsburgh. Starting at center back and playing 170 of 180 minutes on the weekend, the Smithtown, NY native helped shut down a Cardinals team who averaged nearly two goals a contest heading into the matchup Saturday. Funke contributed offensively as well in the match, heading in the game's opening goal off a corner to propel the eventual 2-1 victory.

Funke and the Hawks backline remained stingy against the Bears, allowing just four shots on goal in a 2-0 shutout victory for Potsdam.

SUNY New Paltz is back in action Wednesday when it goes on the road to face Vassar College in a non-conference contest.
