New Paltz, NY --- The State University of New York at New Paltz tennis team rolled to its second-straight sweep Thursday, defeating visiting SUNY Plattsburgh, 9-0.
Playing in atypical April weather, both teams had to fight through wind, cold and even some snow early on. The Hawks didn't take too much time earning the win with them sweeping doubles, 8-0, 8-2 and 8-1 at first, second and third, respectively.
Trinity Chow for the second straight game won first singles without dropping a point, beating the Cardinals' Cydney Bond, 6-0, 6-0.
Onalee Batcheller won her match against Hallie Hurtwitz at third singles 6-1, 6-0, while freshman
Tatiana Barnett, after sitting during doubles play, got herself warm and went on to defeat Megan Blake, 6-1, 6-0.
"With the weather and the wind I thought it was going to be horrendous, but with the team spirit and everyone just hyping us up I think I was able to catch myself and gather all of my emotions in order to keep my physicality in place and work with the wind," Barnett said. "After I started playing I think it changed, because before I was not excited to play, but after I started to get up in the match I started to feel a little bit more confident."

The Hawks'
Alex Chimenti also won 6-1, 6-0, defeating Plattsburgh's Bri Miller, while Isabella De La Rocha, playing in her first match as a Hawk, won sixth singles, 6-1, 6-1. Second singles was the closest match of the day, but
Laura Koob made sure to put the game away and won, 6-2, 6-3 over the Cardinals' Sarah Hoeffner.
"Plattsburgh has a really strong bond with each other," Barnett said. "I think they were really good at hyping each other up, however the consistency needs to be a little bit stronger, but they do make a really strong opponent."Â
SUNY New Paltz is on the road Friday with arguably its biggest match of the season against SUNY Oneonta. The last time the two teams met was in the 2020 SUNYAC Tournament with the Hawks besting the Red Dragons, 5-2 to win their second-straight conference title.
The Hawks, who head into the contest at 2-0, remain confident to keep their unbeaten streak alive.
"As a team I think we'll do very well going into our last few games," Barnett added. "Everyone is doing exceptional and I think the bond between the team is very strong."
