Syracuse, NY – The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) announced its weekly player of the week winners for each affiliate sport with Hawks senior Anthony Amoroso being named as the SUNYAC Pitcher of the Week, his second time this year being named to the honor.

Amoroso arguably had his best two-game stretch as a Hawk this past week in outings against SUNY Plattsburgh and SUNY Oneonta. He threw a career-high 10 strikeouts against the Cardinals April 27 in just six innings pitched and gave up just one run and four hits through five innings. The Monroe, NY native allowed just four earned runs with only one walk in the complete game. 

He backed up that performance with a 1-0 shutout gem against the Red Dragons May 1. Amoroso threw eight innings, gave up just five hits and one walk and matched a career-high 10 strikeouts he set four days prior. More importantly, the victory helped the Hawks keep their playoff hopes alive, as the team went on to sweep the road doubleheader matchup over Oneonta.

In the two games combined, the fifth-year senior forced 13 ground outs and just five flyouts, throwing a total of 212 pitches on 54 batters faced with a WHIP of 1.00 and an ERA of 2.57.

SUNY New Paltz is back in action Thursday when it visits SUNY Plattsburgh once again to complete its regular season matchup. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
