SUNY New Paltz Women's Soccer Senior Sky Pedroza Named SUNYAC/PrestoSports Offensive Athlete of the Week

Syracuse, NY — The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) released its weekly awards Monday with Hawks fifth-year senior Sky Pedroza earning SUNYAC/PrestoSports Women's Soccer Offensive Athlete of the Week honors.

Pedroza becomes one of the first SUNYAC weekly recipient for the program in more than half a decade after helping her team to two wins on the week, and first over non-conference foe Manhattanville College.

The Levittown, NY native was key in a 2-0 victory over Bard College Wednesday and 7-1 rout of the Valiants Saturday, scoring three goals in the two games combined. Coming off the bench in both contests and totaling 108 minutes of action, Pedroza provided an offensive spark that resulted in the Hawks' best two-game output of the season.

She nearly gave SUNY New Paltz the first-half lead over the Raptors, one-timing a volley coming across the box that hit off the cross bar. However, Pedroza made sure to finish her next opportunity in the second half to solidify the 2-0 outcome. Pressuring Bard's backline, she got in front of the Raptors keeper to deflect a clear attempt and tapped in the open-goal score. Three days later, she continued her clinical finishes in the box, getting in front of a flat ball played in by Manhattanville's goalie out of the back to put away the Hawks' third goal of the game. Pedroza added one more to put the finishing touches on a dominant win with another hustle play on a 50-50 bouncing ball in the visitors 18-yard box. She got up to chip the Valiants keeper, heading in her second goal of the game and third of the week.

Through her two games, Pedroza averaged 1.5 goals per game with a shooting percentage of .750 after recording four shots — three of which went into the back of the net.
