Syracuse, NY — The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) announced its weekly award winners Monday with sophomore goalkeeper Maddie Franklin earning her second SUNYAC Defensive Athlete of the Week honor of the season.
 
Franklin was awarded her first SUNYAC Defensive Player of the Week recognition Sept. 26 after guiding the Hawks to two wins over Plattsburgh and Fredonia earlier in the season. She was named to her second Defensive Athlete of the Week Monday after another standout week in net.
 
Against No. 2 regionally ranked Cortland Wednesday, Franklin kept the Hawks in the game with several impressive stops throughout the match. She finished with six total saves, three on diving efforts, including a parrying save within the first two minutes to keep the stalemate. Both goals scored against the Roberts Wesleyan transfer were well-placed shots by the Red Dragons, one hitting the upper 90 of frame and another off a bending corner.
 
Franklin then bounced back with a career day on the road against Brockport Saturday to help her team end a two-game losing skid, while clinching their eighth shutout of the season. Franklin finished with 11 saves, a career-high, and came away with her third clean sheet of the season in a full 90 minutes played on 11 shots faced.
 
In nine starts, Franklin leads the conference in goals allowed (5) and sits second in goals against average (.53), just .01 behind Geneseo and Cortland's starting goalkeepers.
 
Franklin and the Hawks are back in action Wednesday for a non-conference road match against Manhattanville College at 7 p.m.
