Binghamton, NY — The State University of New York at New Paltz women's tennis team was on the road for the second consecutive day at the Binghamton Tennis Center Friday. The Hawks claimed a 9-0 victory over the Blue Devils of Fredonia for their third straight win and remain unbeaten SUNYAC matches this fall.
The Hawks swept doubles play, as Justine Stanejko and Loretta Donovan won, 8-0 at first doubles, while Onalee Batcheller and Amirah Alston earned an 8-2 win at second doubles. Freshmen Lillian Nowak and Nina Genzone paired up for the first time and helped with the sweep on an 8-3 victory at third doubles.
SUNY New Paltz rolled through singles play and dropped three points total in its six matchups. Stanejko, Batcheller and Genzone each had clean victories of 6-0, 6-0 at first, second and fifth singles, while Donovan and Nowak won 6-1, 6-0 at three and sixes with Alson earning a 6-0, 6-1 win at fours.
With the victory, the Hawks own the No. 1 seed in the SUNYAC Tournament which will be held April 28 and 29 at the Binghamton Tennis Center.
SUNY New Paltz will close out the fall season Saturday when they face Brockport at 3 p.m. The Golden Eagles will be the third in a trio of SUNYAC matches being played at the Binghamton Tennis Center for SUNY New Paltz.
