Geneseo, NY — The State University of New York at New Paltz suffered its first SUNYAC loss of the season Saturday after falling on the road to SUNY Geneseo, 5-1.
The first goal of the game was claimed by the Knights in the second quarter by Maggie Philips, but
Julia Cummings quickly tied the score at 1-1 a minute later on an assist by
Natasia Plunkett, but that was the only offense SUNY New Paltz mustered the remainder of the game. Geneseo rattled off four unanswered goals to end the game to hand the Hawks their third loss of the season.
The Knights took a 2-1 lead at the break after a goal scored in the final two minutes of the quarter with Geneseo piling on to open up the third quarter and two more to end the fourth. SUNY New Paltz out-shot the Knights, 16-13, but 14 of those shots came in the first half as they struggled to get a shot on cage in the final 30 minutes. The Hawks did earn 13 corners, nine of which were in the first half, while the Knights earned six corners in the game.
Shannon Bernhardt led SUNY New Paltz with eight shots, five on goal, while Plunkett followed with three.
Davin Testo ended with six saves for the Hawks.
SUNY New Paltz is on short rest as it's back home to host Ithaca College Tuesday on North Turf Field at 4 p.m.
