SUNY New Paltz Baseball Shutout in Doubleheader Against Kean

Union, NJ — The State University of New York at New Paltz baseball team competed in a nine-inning doubleheader against Kean University Friday and lost both games, 5-0 and 2-0, respectively.

The Hawks dropped to 4-9 on the season. Although their offense continued to struggle, which produced six hits on the day combined, they had two solid pitching performances from their starters Billy Moeller and Bobby Ramsey. SUNY New Paltz coach Thomas Seay said he was happy with the way his team competed against one of the best pitching teams in the country.

"If we play the way we played today, we'll win games," Seay said. "Our pitching today was excellent. Our fielding today was excellent and we just got beat by a very good team."

In game one the Hawks struggled getting a hit off the Cougars' Collin Kiernan who allowed just two hits with 11 strikeouts through a complete nine innings pitched.

Moeller had a solid outing himself, pitching six innings, giving up seven hits and one earned run with six strikeouts. James McGovern and Jeremy Acosta both pitched an inning to end the game, combining for just four hits with Acosta conceding two runs in the eighth. Ryan Mackle and Leo Alveraz were the only two to register a hit in the game for SUNY New Paltz.
Matthew Polestino

In game two, the Hawks produced more hits (4) but struggled getting runners across. They had another solid pitching outing from Ramsey who faced 21 batters through five innings and allowed just nine hits and two earned runs with five strikeouts. James Trink finished the game and allowed no runs on three hits in three innings pitched. Justin Ortiz, Ryan Mackle, Joe Patane and Matt Laurelli each had hits in the game.

SUNY New Paltz is back in action March 25 and 26, as its scheduled to hold a three-game home-opening set against SUNY Plattsburgh in its first SUNYAC series of the year.
