Brockport, NY — The State University of New York at New Paltz collected its fourth straight SUNYAC sweep after earning, 5-1 and 9-1 road wins over The College at Brockport.
Lindsay Roman,
Katie Quagliana and Jill Harrison provided stellar pitching for the Hawks with Roman recording her 10th win of the season, while Harrison picked up her sixth. The three combined to allow just two earned runs and eight hits on the day.
"I was really happy with today, how we were able to keep our focus and persevere through some really tough weather conditions," said SUNY New Paltz coach
Krysti Maronski. "The team stayed focused on the game and we were able to play well and take two, which is huge going into tomorrow."
The Hawks picked up Roman early in the top of the first, as
Jackie Rometo got on after a throwing error by the shortstop. She then advanced on a wild pitch with Quagliana taking advantage, knocking an RBI single to give her team an early, 1-0 lead.
After a pair of 1-2-3 innings for Roman, SUNY New Paltz provided some insurance runs in the top of the third. Quagliana got the inning started with a lead-off single to right and was moved over on a sacrifice bunt by
Carol Ann Campsey. An error on the next at-bat allowed
Jillian Shelbourne to get on and Quagliana to score with
Jessica Graepel tacking on another three batters later on a rip to center to plate Shelbourne.

The Golden Eagles scored in the bottom of the fourth, but the Hawks capped the game with two more in the final inning to create a comfortable 5-1 advantage.
Nicole Greco hit a one-out single on a full count before landing in scoring position on a wild pitch.
Sydney Bonewit brought her home on an RBI single to center before also touching home on an RBI single by Rometo a batter later with two outs.
Roman then shut the door with another 1-2-3 inning to end the game. She pitched all seven innings, registering her sixth complete game, giving up just three hits, one earned run with three strikeouts.
SUNY New Paltz once again jumped out to an early lead to open up the top of the first in game two. Four-straight balls put Rometo on to lead-off and Quagliana followed up by smacking a double to center.
Madison Maggs then cleared the bases by rocketing a three-run home run to bring the Hawks to a 3-0 lead heading into the bottom half of the inning.
After Fredonia earned one back in the bottom of the first, SUNY New Paltz re-upped its three-run lead before breaking the game open in the fourth. Back-to-back one-out walks set the table for Rometo who knocked an RBI single up the middle to score Graepel. Rometo then stole second and was plated, along with Bonewit, by a two-RBI single by Campsey with two outs to push the score to 7-1. Shelbourne then closed out the scoring with an RBI base hit to bring Campsey home.
Quagliana scored the last run for SUNY New Paltz in the top of the sixth, as an error at short allowed her to score during a
Julia Mastrup at-bat.
Harrison pitched four innings, giving up five hits, one walk and one earned run with two strikeouts. Rometo went 2-for-3 in the game two with one RBI and walk, and in game one added a hit, run and an RBI. Quagliana, who went 2-for-3 with a run, an RBI and two walks in game one, had two more runs and a hit in game two. Greco had two hits and a run scored in game one, while Shelbourne finished with two hits, an RBI and a run scored.
"We are continuing to improve each day and are getting some really solid pitching from our staff and that is going to be key going into tomorrow's games versus Geneseo," Maronski said. "We just have to stay the course and focus on the task at hand."
SUNY New Paltz is back in action Saturday, taking on SUNY Geneseo for a doubleheader starter at 2 p.m.
