SUNY New Paltz Women's Soccer Open Up SUNYAC Play with 3-0 Win Over Potsdam

Potsdam, NY — The State University of New York at New Paltz opened up SUNYAC play Saturday on the road and earned a 3-0 win over hosting SUNY Potsdam.

The Hawks (4-1-1 overall, 1-0 SUNYAC) secured its second consecutive 3-0 result after coming off another road victory against Bard Wednesday. Like against the Raptors two days prior, SUNY New Paltz dominated in chances. Against the Bears (3-4, 0-1) they out-shot their opposition 20-5, including 11-3 on target to go along with six corners while keeping the hosts without a corner kick opportunity throughout the match.

"I thought there were moments that showed an elite level in our possession, in our attack, executing set pieces, pressing as a unit, sound defensive shape, high tempo combination from our backs and mids," said Hawks coach Mike Eckberg. "Other moments we were mediocre and lost in the midfield, did not win second balls, did not link up well in our front line… [but] an all-around blue-collar attitude and mentality to get a solid result today."

Rachel Eisert got SUNY New Paltz the early one-goal advantage, scoring off a corner taken by Emma Voege who was credited with the assist in the sixth minute. Gaby Treble added on with six minutes left in the half as she put away her third of the year off an assist by Dana Salinas. Addison Weiner then capped the offensive night for the Hawks, as the freshman notched her first career goal finishing on an assist by Parris Burke.

Hannah Wellinger
"All three goals today were a complete team effort, well-earned and well deserved," Eckberg said. "Great execution on a set piece for the first goal. A sustained attack that created chaos in the box for our forwards to challenge the goalkeeper coming off her line for the second, and a phenomenal attacking sequence, dynamic runs off the ball, excellent service and great positioning from our weak side forward to finish."

Eisert led SUNY New Paltz with five shots in the game in 53 minutes. She was followed by freshman Kelly Licata who tallied four shots off the bench in 48 minutes played, followed by Ally Donovan who had three in 50 minutes of action.

Kyra Russo and Maddie Franklin split time in goal. Russo didn't see a shot on target while Franklin totaled three saves.

The Hawks are back in action Wednesday in another highly anticipated SUNYAC matchup, hosting Plattsburgh State at 4 p.m. on South Turf Field.
