Syracuse, NY — The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) announced its weekly award winners Monday with sophomore Maddie Franklin earning her first SUNYAC Athlete of the Week honor.

Franklin, a transfer from Roberts Wesleyan, was pivotal in a 2-0 week for the Hawks. She played all 180 minutes in net in home SUNYAC wins over Plattsburgh State and Fredonia State.
 
Against the No. 6 regionally ranked Cardinals, Franklin came up with huge saves that kept her team in command. She parried a shot destined for the top inside corner of goal in the opening minutes of the game to keep the score at zeroes, and made another big stop, getting up to save a laser from inside the box to hold the score a 2-1 for her team. She ultimately finished with seven saves in the win with a .875 save percentage as SUNY New Paltz hung onto the 2-1 victory.
 
In a 3-0 shutout over the Blue Devils Saturday, Franklin saved all four attempts on goal and kept the shutout late in the second half, coming off her line to corral a would've-been 1-v-1 in the box following a cross by Fredonia. She finished the afternoon with a perfect, 1.000 save percentage and on the week amassed 11 saves and a .917 save percentage.
 
Franklin and the Hawks hit the road this week to face SUNY Oneonta Wednesday and Buffalo State Saturday to defend its undefeated conference record.
