New Paltz, NY — The State University of New York at New Paltz women's tennis team had to move its match against Plattsburgh to this evening on account of the poor weather expected Saturday with the Hawks claiming a 9-0 victory over the Cardinals on the North Tennis Courts to remain unbeaten in the SUNYAC. The Hawks clinched a spot in the SUNYAC playoffs next spring as a result of Friday's win.
"Our doubles teams really set the tone for the match coming out really strong against a well drilled Plattsburgh team," said SUNY New Paltz coach Rob Bruley. "I was very pleased with the way we finished points off at the net and our serve and volley patterns worked really well. Justine Stanejko again led the way in our singles line up with a very convincing win and with everyone working hard, bringing the competitiveness that we showed on Wednesday against RPI into today's match. I was very pleased with our consistency in some of the longer points, creating opportunities to be aggressive at the right time. This win today sets us up for a tremendous 3-day match road trip to Binghamton to complete our fall conference season."
The Hawks will return to action Oct. 6, when they face Geneseo at 12 p..m in Binghamton. The Knights will be the first in a trio of SUNYAC matches that will be played at the Binghamton Tennis Center for SUNY New Paltz.
