Seniors Ackerman, Woolley and Moran Honored on Senior Day and lead Hawks to Shootout Victory

New Paltz, NY — The State University of New York at New Paltz closed out its regular season schedule on a high Saturday on North Turf Field, as the Hawks battled through 80 minutes of action and a penalty shootout to earn a 3-2 win over visiting Vassar.

The Hawks celebrated its decorated senior class prior to the game in midfielders Hannah Ackerman, Morgan Woolley and back Sam Moran. The trio were once again crucial in the success of the team with each playing the full 80 minutes Saturday, as Woolley scored the opening goal to give her team a 1-0 lead in the first period.

The game was scoreless until the 14th minute with SUNY New Paltz earning a corner with less than a minute remaining in the quarter. Miranda Britton inserted to Rachel Tama who put a shot on frame with Woolley there to get a tip for the go-ahead goal, her third of the season.

The Brewers tied the game a minute into the second, but the Hawks quickly answered two minutes later, as Amanda Quenneville assisted Tama for her 10th goal of the season to push the hosts back ahead, 2-1. The scoring continued though before the end of the half. Moran recorded her seventh defensive save of the season and extended her program record, but SUNY New Paltz struggled clearing the ball from in front of their goal and ultimately, Vassar took advantage and scored in the 26th minute to knot the game once more at 2-2.

The Hawks managed four corners in the third but couldn't capitalize, however they upped their play in overtime, garnering six corners and four shots in the 20 minutes of extra time.

The Brewers missed their last opportunity and pushed the hosts to the 3-2 win.
