SUNY New Paltz Tennis Sweeps SUNYAC Fall Schedule

Hawks win 9-0 over Brockport

Binghamton, NY — The State University of New York at New Paltz women's tennis team was on the road for its third and final match of a three-day trip at the Binghamton Tennis Club Saturday. The Hawks won against the Golden Eagles of SUNY Brockport 9-0. The Hawks end the fall season with a perfect record in SUNYAC play.

Justine Stanejko and Loretta Donovan won at first doubles, 8-4 for SUNY New Paltz, followed by Onalee Batcheller and Isabel van deer Veen winning 8-1 at second doubles and Tatiana Barnett and Nina Genzone coming out with an 8-2 victory at threes. In singles action Stanejko won her matchup, 6-2, 6-2 followed by Onalee Batcheller (6-2, 6-1), van der Veen (6-0, 6-0), Barnett (6-0, 6-2), Donovan (6-0, 6-0) and Amirah Alston (6-0, 6-1) in one through six for the Hawks.

"We had another dominant performance by our doubles and singles players and saw us run out a 9-0 win against Brockport," said SUNY New Paltz coach Rob Bruley. "This capped off a great three-day trip in Binghamton with the team only dropping one match out of 27 matches. Our performance allowed us to capture the number one seed for our SUNYAC Championships in the spring. The performance from all of the team this weekend allowed us to set a new school record of going undefeated in regular season SUNYAC play for the sixth year straight. I'm proud of all our performances this season and this was a great way to end our fall season. I am looking forward to a successful spring."

For the sixth-straight year the Hawks will enter the SUNYAC Tournament as the top seed. They'll wait until April to compete for their second-straight conference title and fifth in six season

Saturday's match was SUNY New Paltz's last of their fall season and will return this spring when they prepare to defend their SUNYAC title as the top seed in the conference tournament. Cortland earned the second seed behind the Hawks, followed by Geneseo at three and Oneonta at four. The SUNYAC Championship will be held back at the Binghamton Tennis Center April 26 and 27 with SUNY New Paltz back in action in March for non-conference action in Florida.
