Syracuse, NY — The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) released its weekly award winners Monday with
Brianna Fitzgerald claiming her fourth SUNYAC Player of the Week honor.
Fitzgerald was an easy choice for this week's honor, as the junior posted her second career 30-point performance of her career — the first in program history to do so — as she tied a career-high with 31 points on 10-for-23 shooting from the field and 11-for-14 from the foul line, while pulling down 12 rebounds — six of which were on the offensive end — for her sixth career double-double and first of the year, while adding a career-high four blocks with three assists and two steals.
The performance carried SUNY New Paltz in an impressive, 70-62 regional win over visiting Vassar Nov. 14 to avenge last season's one-point loss to the Brewers.
The award is first of the young season for Fitzgerald after receiving three weekly SUNYAC nods last season en route to the conference's Player of the Year campaign.
Fitzgerald and the Hawks are back in action Tuesday, hosting Mount Saint Mary College at 6 p.m. in the Hawk Center.
